Who Else Wants Illness, Grief and Face Peels Instead of Dreaming

Sex and the city I had plans, lots of dream plans this week. Yes-siree-bob, I was going to another writing class on Thursday night and writing 500 – 1000 words a day. I was also doing more research on a specific writing contest and selecting a story to submit. Yep, those were the plans; that was the vision.

I didn’t accomplish a single one.  I could sit here and say  . . . there was  . . .

Illness

I came down with a bad case of shingles.  It’s painful and emotionally draining but I try not to complain.

Grief

A family friend passed away on Friday.  How can I write when all I want to do is sit and cry? I hate crying. It just seems like such a waste of time and energy.

A Face Peel

Crying makes my face peel. A complaint coming not from vanity but from the discomfort associated with the healing. Does anyone else suffer from this odd problem?

So I’m a crying, face peeling shingle wearing dreamer . . . and what do you do when life has you down? You look for some motivation or some inspiration wherever you can find it! We share our ups and downs of dreaming on this website, but I can’t leave you without a way to move past what is currently happening in my life.

Tony Robbins videos are always a good place to start when wanting to change our thoughts and move  away from our negative thinking. In a few weeks, these temporary problems will have faded and I will be enjoying writing again.  So you enjoy this video and I’ll be resting, recuperating and changing my thoughts for dream success –

Don’t let your thoughts get in the way of your dreams!

Dawnda

Dawnda’s dream was to get some piece of writing published in 2009. She left the 8 Women Dream group in 2009 to focus on finding full-time employment. We consider her an accomplished dreamer as she published her thoughts here and began her own scary stories blog at www.killeryarns.com and opened a mobile restaurant selling amazing pork barbecue in the northern California Wine Country.

Dad isn’t going to die. I already had a conversation with God and he agreed – hence the eye incident didn’t have any seriously negative consequences! :) You’re welcome! hahaha

You and Nanny aren’t dying either… I hope you like the idea of living forever MUAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAAAa

    North Bay Fiction Writers Workshop
The North Bay Fiction Writers Workshop is based in central Santa Rosa. We are committed writers who meet every Thursday evening from 7pm to 9:30pm with a focus toward publication. We discuss both the creative and business parts of writing. A portion of every meeting is dedicated to critique of each members work-in-progress. Our focused weekly topics center on aspects of writing such as “How to write great hooks” and “Building characters.” The two and half hour workshops are structured fluidly to allow each writer the opportunity to focus on a topic of interest to them such as: feedback on our writing, how to write a query letter, submission formatting, how to contact publications, how to make money while writing your novel etc. We frequently do writing exercises in the group. At each meeting, we set and follow up our goals. Members make a commitment to attend the group regularly. We meet every Thursday from 7-9:30 pm in central Santa Rosa with easy access from 101. We are interested in expanding our membership to a core committed group of 15 members with 5 part-time members. $10 per meeting (light snacks are provided) This workshop is facilitated by published author/educator/writing coach F.R.R. Mallory. Visit us on the web at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/north-bay-fiction-writers/ or e-mail [email protected].

    ScriptCats
What is character the catalyst of action? And — what is action, the revelation of character? ScriptCats is a Sonoma County screenwriting group. We meet monthly in the downtown Santa Rosa area. An arena for feedback on issues specific to screenwriting such as premise, scene, sequence, dialogue, characterization, logline, pitching, agents and more. The mission is creativity. We do not mourn over the lost hours in the day to write. Ambitious and aspiring screenwriters are welcome to be among a comradeship of others with completed works and or works in progress. Scriptcats has an eclectic and diverse interest in films from rare independent to mainstream. A great place for feedback and as a sounding board before submitting finished scripts to contests, industry contacts and pitching. If this sounds like a group you may be interested in being a part of, send email to [email protected]. State a little about yourself, your writing genre’s past and present projects and where you’d like to go. Looking forward to hearing from you!

OOHhh soo sorry to hear about your bad week. I think that it’s ok to sit and cry for a week, or more, whatever it takes! It always gets better:)

(laugh) sorry about the emails – too long since a last meeting.

I did sign us up to participate in top blogger, Darren Rowse’s 31 days to Building a Better Blog. It is sometimes easier for Darren to teach everyone blogging – rather than me. No worries tho – I have been participating on his blog, and in the forum this whole time. It is up to anyone else to do what they wish. If it is easier and you are interested, he also posts his advise on his great blog at: http://www.problogger.net/31-days-to-building-a-better-blog.

Blogging is a skill you can take to your next great writing job, so add it to your resume.

Dawnda I forget what thyroid meds you are on. I am on Armour, which has T3 in it. I forget if you are supplementing with T3 (like cytomel) or not. Often, our Adrenals fail us too when we are under stress, causing some of our hypothyroidism symptoms to reoccur.

When that old feeling of non-motivation returns and that exhausted-without-being-tired rears its ugly head (you know what I mean by this odd feeling), I up my cytomel in small doses during the day. Then I make sure I am getting enough progesterone cream to balance my hormones. I protect my adrenals by picking a night to take melatonin at 7:30pm, along with a glass of wine, a hot bath and make sure I am asleep BEFORE 10:00pm – see here: http://www.abcarticledirectory.com/Article/Adrenal-Fatigue—Taking-Care-of-Your-Energy-Source/126991

This usually re-boots my system. Sometimes I even have to go on a low carb diet and really watch my sugar for a month to get everything back to normal – most importantly – NO flour.

People have no idea what Hashimotos and hypothyroidism is like and how we have to watch what is going on when that old stinkin thinkin rears its head. The first thing I do is come to the realization that my endocrine system is barking at me and I go the extra mile to eliminate stress.

    And I also meditate…

Take care of yourself dear while you ride this wave.

    Hugs,
    Cath

I agree with Danelle, plus I am wondering how your thyroid is doing…? I forget what you are taking, but I am no good unless there is T3 being supplemented, either with cytomel or switching to Armour which has T3, thus greatly reducing the symptoms.

If I am going through a stressful time, then I need to add T3 as my body burns through the T3 in a shorter amount of time. I then split a dose up, taking it in the morning, noon and with dinner to balance out my endocrine functions. I can always tell there is a problem when I start getting the “blue flu” type feeling. I up the T3 and make sure I am balancing with Progesterone cream.

I also stop eating carbs, lower my sugar intake and take melatonin an hour before sleep. If I think my Adrenals are failing from stress, I take that melatonin at 7:30 in the evening, take a bath, have a glass of red wine and put myself to bed before 9pm. Adrenals need you to be asleep by 10pm, here is an article about it http://www.articlesbase.com/supplements-and-vitamins-articles/adrenal-fatigue-229582.html

I always assume if I am having motivation issues that my thyroid is talking to me and I need to care for it to shut it up. Could this be happening to you? Autoimmunity is an odd little bugger and with the shingles you are getting a double whammy.

Give yourself some love … and rest.

    Hugs,
    Cath

I’m so sorry you’ve had a difficult week! I try to seek comfort in my animals. And, I give myself time. If I sense I need a day (or two, or a week) of not doing anything – I try really hard to let myself have that time without beating myself up for not getting something “accomplished”. Isn’t taking care of ourselves accomplishing something in itself? I’m learning to reach out to others for support but that’s really hard for me to do. So, thanks for posting here what’s happening in your life. I hope the next few days ahead are better. You’ll get back to writing soon enough.
