Thank you so much - and no - I don't think you are lecturing at all.

I am taking Monday off and am going to watch it. I think it is a really old injury suddenly showing up after all these years and maybe because I haven't done anything this extensive (walking wise) for some time.

I also think I need new shoes.

I have Tiger Balm on my entire right knee, have taken some anti-inflammatories and will ice it when I go to bed.

And I agree with you that I should watch this as I don't want to cause damage. I was thinking that if it continues I will see if it is easier to ride my bike for a while and strengthen my upper thighs. I have this Killer "Betty" retro bike you all would love to see. (She's black with hot pink flames).

Thanks again for your concern and I will take care.

Oh, Cath, I just noticed what you said about knees hurting. So here's the thing -- muscle soreness is a sign you're strengthening, so that's "good pain" (as long as it's not too far overboard.) Joint pain is always bad pain. Usually when people talk about knee pain, well, the knee is a joint, so it's joint pain. (Although "sore" is most often used for muscle pain, so maybe I've got it wrong.)

Anyway, if you are having joint pain, please don't ignore it and tough it out. That will most likely result in one of two things:
1) It will get worse until you are too hurt to run in the race
2) You will tough it out through the race, but be left with damage that will follow you throughout your life
I'm speaking from experience on this -- I'll be going in for knee surgery next month.

Joint pain requires first rest, then more nurturing activity. If you catch it early, there's a good chance you can still race without much harm, if you modify your workout style. That would mean less actual running, and more nurturing activities. There are things you can do to build strength without the jarring and knee bending, and more nurturing ways to build endurance. And when you practice running, you will do less damage if you run with good form. Some coaching on that could be very helpful. Also, the right shoes can sometimes help.

Okay, mommy-lecture over. Hopefully I misunderstood.

Remy I'm SO proud of you and you are inspiring me to pull out my goals list tonight and work on my plans for the coming month again some more... :) So proud of you for creating so much and being IN ACTION! Love it that you are participating in the Art Fair and picked your business name... You have accomplished A LOT already in 2010 and should be proud!

Just remember to take really good care of yourself - definitely agree that the "no sleep" plan is not one that'd be so good for you. ;)

Keep it up!

Love,
Lisa

after 23 years of softball, my knees were the first 'part' of me to start to hurt as an adult. Too many years of catching and sliding that have finally caught up to me...so be careful, listen to them, they are an important part of most every movement we make. Trust me on that. Brian and I are starting a jogging and aerobic plan next week, as his Rugby coaches have asked the whole team to step it up in terms of endurance. It will be great to get a 'running buddy' as long as he doesn't make me run 20 feet behind him and drop him off at the corner so his friends don't see me. Wait, that is the movies...Keep it going Fergie. You are way more beautiful btw.

Did your son learn that move from you? ;-)

You are kicking some butt with your goals my dear. i read all that you have accomplished to date and thought, "crap I need to get moving on some things".

On a positive note my knees are crying over all the walk/running I am doing every day. This should lead to something favorable in the ass shrinkage area I am thinking, besides all the training for the Bay to Breakers.

Boonie the dog is wondering what is up with me tho and she is equally sore.
