When Is A Dream Really A Dream?
You think you have a dream to do something, be something, go somewhere or even be with someone.
You have been
reading our site here at 8 Women Dream (thank you). You have read about the ups, downs and successes we have all been experiencing.
You have read and watched some of the most amazing motivational posts out there. And now you think you are ready to start pursuing your dream.
But you hesitate.
You are wondering how do you know if your dream is really a dream and not just a passing fancy.
Anything you think you want to do you should try to do. (Yeah okay yawn)
Isn’t that exciting?
Oh, I know it is a bit overwhelming at first, but try to see it as an open door. The raising of the curtain on the play that is your life.
Sound corny?
I’ll concede that it does just a bit. But honestly, every step you take to make that dream a reality will change you in some way. You will gain knowledge about your dream and yourself.
My dream is to be an author of captivating books. I have had that dream as long as I can remember. I have not always thought about it or even considered it an actual possibility. But it was there, buried in the attic of my mind like an old stuffed bear just waiting to be found and embraced.
For me, identifying that dream was relatively easy. But what if you have more than one dream? What if, as you work to achieve one dream you identify another?
I believe that I am currently in the middle of realizing a new dream. I signed up to take a class thinking it would help my resume and my writing.
I only planned to take the one class.
This week I signed up for another.
While it is true that these classes will help my writing, they are actually on the path toward a medical career.
I do not want to be a doctor…at least I don’t think I do. I am, however, mightily intrigued by the subject. I haven’t actually identified the dream yet, but I recognize the feeling. It’s kind of like the feeling you get when you are at the top of the roller coaster and starting to go over the edge.
You’re scared and excited all at the same time and even though you know your stomach will be in your throat in a matter of seconds you would never try to get off.
Throughout our lives we move in and out of different relationships, careers and personal wants and needs. It is my belief that our dreams will change as we orbit around ourselves and others.
Then again as we grow and mature and when we, hopefully, realize that being mature isn’t necessarily the best thing in all circumstances.
How do you know when a dream is really a dream?
For me it’s when I get that roller coaster feeling. For you it may be slightly different. But I think for everyone it is when you are afraid to go after it because you have a fear of failing. When the thought of failing means the end of something that means so much.
When you think you would rather continue to think about it and “dream” about it than take the chance of losing it.
Take steps today to recognize your dream.
Make a plan of action and work toward it a little every day.
You will be amazed at what you may find.
In the meantime I’m over here studying for my final.

It is not uncommon for a dream to change as someone begins to work on it. Besides, I still say you need to know all these medical terms and work with doctors so you can write in your scary stories about how your creatures maim people or entities disembowel their victims!
OK, now I need to go stare at Squirreltv.com

Your post is exactly what I’ve been thinking about all week – how do I know that the dream I’m following is what I want to be pursuing? I mentioned last week that my new dream (still secret!) may be my “true” dream. So, with inspiration from you, I think I’ll go write this week’s post about how I know. Thank you!
You nailed it! That’s the way I test if I am “coasting” or “going for it” – that exciting rush/tingle. You don’t get that sitting on the couch!
Maybe the process of discovering the dream, or going after it is more exciting then the dream itself.
