How I Survive a Super Busy Week

and still work on your dream of becoming an accomplished equestrian.

First, get rid of the pot-bellied pig.  Mango’s grumpiness was not diminishing.  Neither was the horses’ terror.

I asked my pot-bellied pig knowledgeable friend to come over.  We put Mango out in a temporary, fenced area so she could stretch her legs a bit, thinking that may improve her mood.

Mango charged my friend.

My friend looked closely at Mango, mystified at her grumpiness.

“Oh!!” she exclaimed, “she’s in heat!  Pigs get really grumpy when they’re in heat.”

I asked, “How often do pigs go into heat?”

“Every 3 weeks.”

Hmmmmm . . . “How long do pigs live?”

On Saturday, when my arena was finally dry enough to turn horses out  (Yea!!), I looked at Nikki, standing out in his paddock, wildly snorting at Mango the pig.  I looked at the big scar on the back of my hand which was caused by Nikki’s hind hoof.  I then looked at Stormy with his foot all bandaged up from kicking, displaying his unhappiness about Mango the pig.  I thought about the coming vet bill.  I looked at Mango and thought about years of a PMS’ing, grumpy pig every 3 weeks.

The answer was clear – no more pigs for us.  My kids were not too upset.  In exchange for letting Mango the pig go, I promised a new bunny.

Have I mentioned that last Thursday evening was spent burying one of our pet bunnies, my 4 and 6 year old in attendance.  Not how I anticipated spending the evening.  We talked about what other pets were buried out in the vineyard.  My 6 year old asked, “If we ever move, are we going to have to dig them all up to take them with us?”

I have a super busy week this week:

I have court every single day.

This morning (Monday) we have almost no water pressure, which means something is wrong with the well pump.  Hope the well fix-it people get here soon!

Tuesday the farrier (horse shoer) is scheduled to come.

Thursday is my son’s Tiger Cub meeting, which I have to plan since I’m Den Leader.

Friday I have to bring treats to the school Halloween party.  Friday evening, the photographer is coming back to try to finish up kid and horse photos.  Hopefully, it will go better than last time when Nikki kicked me and sent me to the ER (thus, the scar on the back of my hand).

And, of course, Saturday is Halloween.  We’re having a Halloween party.  I”m expecting about 15 kids plus parents.   And my 6 year old has two birthday parties to go to that weekend.

Don’t forget Rose Parade float stuff!!  I’m so behind on that, I don’t even like to think about it.

And all the regular “life” and household things – laundry, feeding animals, making lunches, presiding over homework, piano lessons (& practice!), gymnastics, and, I suppose, my family would like dinner each night.  You know how it goes!

So, where does my dream of becoming an accomplished equestrian fit in?  That’s a good question.  How am I going to get through this week without turning into a raving lunatic?  Another good question.   Here’s my plan:

I may not have time to ride but I’ll turn Nikki out every day that I can, or at least brush him – do something just to handle him.

Get up on time so our mornings go smoothly.  Make lunches and get coffee ready the night before.  Make sure kids and husband have clothes ready to wear.

Plan meals and start dinner early so its not suddenly 6:00, the kids are whining, and I”m turning circles in the kitchen wondering what the heck I’m going to cook.

Remember to take care of myself – eat well, exercise, take the extra 5 seconds to put perfume and jewelry on in the morning.

Wish me luck!!

Good luck Danelle!!! You do amaze me with all you do and accomplish eack week… Sounds like a wise decision to trade the pot-bellied pig-in-heat in for a bunny. :-)

    Hugs,
    Lisa

The things they never tell you about pigs…that is a bummer, but it sounds like the right move. You seem like you are on the go constantly. Do you ever get time to stop the ‘doing’ and just be? I wish u luck this week and certainly will keep productive thoughts in mind…not for the bunny, for you! :) Rem

  3. EVERY THREE WEEKS? That would make me want to go through menopause at 21. Lordy, your life on the farm …

  4. You’re so funny. How long do the pigs live. haha. You have so many different people come to your house. You must never get bored!
