How Reflecting On Dreams of The Past Make Me Look To The Future

Looking back.

I sit quietly reflecting, looking at my life from a big picture view.  I look back to see the dreams that I have  completed while  yearning to move forward toward the dreams I have yet to accomplish.

healthy thanksgiving dinner choicesToday I am filled with gratitude.  8 Women Dream have become so much more then just an avenue toward my dreams.  I find that I have a fresh perspective on life because of the ability to view myself from a new angle.

Eight Women Dream is a group of wonderful women, who not only share  my dream and their own dreams, but our dream as a whole.

The peace and serenity that I feel, is a gift, for that I am truly grateful.  I have begun to realize that I have already attained so many goals.  Goals that I haven’t been aware of.

Today the dream that is coming to fruition in my life is happening right here – right now.  While trying to move forward with my own dreams, I am being supported by this group of women, Eight Women Dream.

It is through their support that I am able to sit here and enjoy this very moment, and the many moments that tomorrow holds and the many moments that each and every day holds for me.

Nothing  in life is more important than this very moment.

I am enjoying my own company as I sit in bed, cozy in my pj’s and my computer sitting on my lap.  Enjoying the full feeling I have in my tummy, full from the wonderful food I have eaten.  My heart is warm, my tummy full, and my eyes are tired.  What a Wonderful Life it is.

The feeling of comradeship that is emanated from these women within 8 women dream, moves me to tears.  Today I am so grateful.

In wanting to accomplish the dream of healthy living and a sense of body satisfaction I overlooked the strength I have acquired through showing up each week on this blog to tell my story – good – bad – indifferent.  Somewhere along the way in the writing and the attending of dream meetings – I slowly found myself – along with seven other women who love me as I am – without judgment.

They say -

It’s OK come and play at your dream and you will be surprised at what will happen if you just gently come along for the ride.  What?  you didn’t work your dream this week?  You feel down?  It’s OK, come back and play – your dream is here still waiting for you . . .

Each week I am lured back, sometimes out of sense of duty, other times in a rush to tell my story, sometimes even while wanting desperately to hide. But a funny thing happens when we do this dream work.  Our dream slowly begins to come true – even with the little tiny baby steps – hope opens a small window – if we just keep showing up.

We just don’t see how far we’ve come because we don’t stop and read our old posts from where we started.  But if we turn around and look back we can see how far we’ve come.

I can’t imagine doing it without the hand holding this group provides.  There’s no one telling you that your dream is crazy or unreasonable or out of the question.  These ladies just look at you and say, OK how do we help you do this?

They then begin to troubleshoot any perceived obstacles to our dream.

How awesome is that?

They also let me know that I am important, I matter in my own life and I am worth setting time each day aside just for myself.  As giving women we can often forget to include ourselves in our own giving schedule.  It was recommended that I put my name on my bedroom door as a way to announce my time (and space) to me.

You don’t find that kind of advice in the newspapers.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.  I hope you are as thankful as I am.

Wow, Veronica. What a timely and thoughtful post. This time of year especially, when it tends to get so crazy and there is stress about pretty much everything – stop, take a breath, turn around, accept and embrace support and just be. All the big leaps are just a bunch of little steps all headed in the same direction…Stay out and play a little longer! Looking forward to meeting you Friday! Rem

  2. Veronica,

    Great post.

I wish more people could find happiness with the things that really count.

I know people who believe the way to happiness is by purchasing lots of stuff.

Once they have this stuff they are not happy because they did not grow on the journey.

Then they purchase more stuff thinking that will make them happy.

Sorry – I had a little problem posting this correctly.

  3. Veronica -

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the opportunity to get in shape to walk the Bay to Breakers – you offer much to this group along with your sage advise.

We can talk – because you have nooooooo idea how bad I was with food over Thanksgiving – LORDY! So I will have to start all over again.

So at least I can look to you for inspiration!

  4. Why is it that chocolate can make you feel so happy, and then the guilt sets in? After the holidays I think we’ll all make an effort to get ready for the Bay to Breakers. Meanwhile lets enjoy the season and be happy!

By the way – did you fall asleep with your laptop on your chest and 8 Women Dream up on the screen?

    Been there done that.

Beautiful post Veronica, and I love this: “Nothing in life is more important than this very moment.”

So true! I love what you said as well about how our dreams can and will come true “as long as we keep showing up.” Amen!

So happy to be a part of the 8womendream team with you – you are such a kind and loving soul and I’m so thrilled to be walking the path with you and cheering you on – knowing we are all in this together, and that just by showing up every week, we ARE honoring each other and our dreams – being who we intend to be in the world.

How lucky we are to be part of this!

    Hugs,
    Lisa
