This past week I started a new semester at Grad school and for all my excitement, I ended with insecurity.

My dream to become a international artist seems so far away. When I look around and see the time and dedication my peers are contributing I feel humbled.

My conclusion is I am spread too thin and getting older by the moment.

It rained most of Saturday then in the late afternoon a patch of blue sky appeared and the sky was adorned with a double rainbow. I took this opportunity to go for a drive to scout out new painting locations.

As I set out to scout for new painting locations the sun had settled just above the rolling hills spilling golden light and casting long sighing shadows.  For a moment the spinning wheels of my negative thoughts slowed to a halt.

I found myself driving down country roads full of  puddles of aqua reflection which wound through glorious emerald fields punctuated by an occasional  faltering barn.

It was breathtaking!

Once again I was reminded why I have to paint.

Did I mention there were cows?

(Wendy’s dream is still to become a influential international artist, but she left 8 Women Dream in March of 2010 to complete grad school.  She is still a strong supporter of 8 Women Dream and you will see her in the comments on the blog.)

  • Hi Wendy,

Keep the faith and let us support you in the process – you are SO talented and are on your way! Anyways I believe age is a state of mind only, and many great artists, writers, etc. created their masterpieces at “advanced” ages… Well beyond where you are in life! You have plenty of years left to paint and create! We’ll be here cheering you on as you land those international shows! :)

im sending you two cow photos that I took out at Garden Valley Ranch last year on a photo trip. Nothing too spectacular, but I loved their spots! R

For Catherine i updated and replaced the photo with the painting i did from it yesterday.

Your right Remy. It is because of painting I believe i now see so much more. It is interesting teaching. i have a couple of one on one students. It is fun to see them discover all the new hidden colors they never noticed.

I get inspired in the same way. You notice things that others may tried to walk over or see past, like puddles and beyond their prime structures. And I have to say, since knowing you, I haven’t been able to look at cows the same old way…is this one smiling at you?? :) Hang in there, and keep painting…stress seems to just fall away in creativity! Now I am so used to your paintings that I almost prefer them to the real thing. Cute post. – Cath
