Unexpected Blessings

unexpected-blessings

Sometimes our dream journey takes a nose dive. And your dream compass needs to be reset. I’ve had a rough week. One of my hardest in a long time. And as the universe always does when I start to question myself, I got affirmations and unexpected blessings from two places. The very best way to calibrate your dream compass is to count your blessings. Especially unexpected blessings.

I’ve been following this dream to empower women for over a decade. And many times I hear feedback about how I’ve helped. But I constantly wonder if the never ending Facebook posts, blogs, and messages picking friends up really make a difference.

The first unexpected blessing was a message on Facebook that came through on a sleepless night when I happened to hear my phone buzz as I tossed and turned.

And I totally cried.

Bless you, Laurel, for sending this to me at the very moment I needed it most:

Hey Iman, I know it has been a good long while and I hope you are doing well, I know this is random but I just wanted to say thank you so much for doing the inner beauty project back in 2011. I was needing some self encouragement this week and I was able to find my letter still in the blog… and I just burst into tears of joy that all of the letters and all of the comments are still there. I’m sure you have gotten a lot of “thank you’s” surrounding the project and it’s because you deserve them! Iman that project changed my life once for the better and I think it’s about to again. Sincerely with all of my heart, I thank you for that because I know that the amount of people that were reached and helped through something you started is now boundless. You are wonderful and so I just wanted to make sure you still knew that

The second unexpected blessing was getting chosen by a sweet kitty at a realty shoot.

Meet Newton. This dapper guy wears a permanent tux, with socks, and a goatee. And his lovely owners said he isn’t usually this friendly. I ADORE animals and love it when a shy animal instantly knows they’re going to get some cuddles from me.

He followed me around the house. Stayed out of the shots and when I was done it seemed he was posing for me. So I took some photos. This is what we got.

Then I walked away to photograph the master bedroom again and when done, came back to look for him. And… I swear… he was WAITING for me. In exactly the same spot I had photographed him in. But he was… posing. And the only way I can illustrate it through a photograph.

His owners and my realtor friend, Rachel came in as I snapped this and saw him posing and we all laughed.

I don’t always pose for belly rubs, but when I do you better photograph it.

He followed me through the rest of the visit. Grabbed my foot with his claws (gently) and licked me. (I call it affectionate-forced-grooming.) It sounds so small, for a sometimes-shy animal to not be shy. But it meant so much. And writing this blog helped me see my week wasn’t all bad.

So fear not, dreamers, when your dreams change. Count your blessings and get back on the dream journey.

Give us your thoughts!
