A few people have asked me why my dream is to travel to New York City.

They’ve wondered why not somewhere more tropical, or exotic, or another country.

I think I was looking for excitement and adventure, somewhere far away but not too far from California due to the fact that my youngest daughter and husband are staying behind.

I’ve been on cruises to Europe, Hawaii, Costa Rica and have traveled through the U.S. But never New York.

I think it is a perfect trip for my dream of taking my teenage daughter and planning and executing a trip on our own.

Ultimately I need to face my fear of flying.

Adventure and excitement, two words that I haven’t seen or felt in a long time. Going through the motions of building a good life and raising kids can be adventurous and exciting at times, but not the kind I am looking for right now. I want to be adventurous and step out of my comfort zone.

So why does my dream include a teenager?

Why not a friend or family? Well for one thing, my husband and I have been slacking on taking our kids traveling. My parents took me to so many places growing up that I dream of having great traveling experiences for my daughters and now they are in their teens.

Where does the time go?

My husband doesn’t like to travel much so taking him is not an option.

Besides, I don’t want to have to worry about what he wants or doesn’t want to do. I want this dream to be about me…and my daughter.

And there’s the flying part …

This is a big step for me though…  participating in a dream group, planning a solo trip for me and my oldest daughter and overcoming my fear of flying.

If I can do this … you can too.

Kim accomplished her dream by traveling to New York with her teenage daughter June of 2009. She lost 20 pounds and overcame her intense dislike (do we say fear?) of flying to accomplish that dream. She rotated off the blog in February 2010.

I just came across your blog and I’ve spent a long time looking at your mission and your dreams. What a tremendous concept for a group as well as a blog! Thanks!
