Why do we need fitness inspiration in our lives?

Things in life are easy when all the stars line up. You have time to make healthy meals, time for your healthy lifestyle and time to sit back, relax and regroup.

Instead I find myself getting sucked into having these anti fitness inspiration thoughts.

If this [insert annoying task here] wasn’t on my to-do list, I would be able to [insert healthy lifestyle choice here].

 

This is the blight of modern living and everything we need to get done in a small window of a 24 hour day.

I call bullshit.

There is no perfect time for anything. Every conversation I’ve had with men and women over the age of 55 has led me to believe that waiting for the perfect time leads to regrets.

I get distracted from working out even when am pumped up on fitness inspiration.

I will miss workouts. I may not have enough energy some days, or I am just too bitchy at the world some days.

To prove my point, I’m going to show you one of my somewhat hidden secrets.

I’ve shared photos of my home gym with you before. Here’s my line up of cardio exercise equipment that is at my disposal if I just can’t take my training out into the fresh air.

Here’s one I know I have not shared with you. Only if you were over at my house for a party and wandered into the wrong room.

Distractions are everywhere. The dishes in the sink, the laundry pile which is more workout than regular clothes lately. Big  old  nagging projects are awesome distractions.

These do not qualify as fitness inspiration. They suck your energy.

I do not spend that much time on the treadmill. My hubby is on these machines every morning and after several months of staring at that pile of stuff, he finally asked me about it.

For an explanation, this pile is the leftover of purging different rooms in the house. The point is to put it on Craigslist. Or donate. Or a garage sale, which we can’t have in our neighborhood because of our strict CC&R’s.

You heard it. Lots of “or” ideas which means decisions. Which means we need to spend time making those decisions. Which comes back to time.

I had to use the treadmill myself last week out of necessity and as soon as I stepped on I remembered why I hate my treadmill.

It’s not the treadmill. It’s not the workout.

It’s that pile of crap I have to stare at when I’m on the treadmill.

Distractions are a fitness inspiration killer.

This pile of crap will not go away without my attention. I may have to chip at it, one item at a time.

The point here is that I have piles of crap in my life that will call to me as I am starting any workout.

Your pile of crap might be emails you just have to get back to before you do anything else. Or getting sucked into Facebook for the millionth time that day.

Find your pile of crap and own it. Now tell it to leave you alone for a while.

You have a workout to do.
