Thankful Thursday:  Be Grateful for Fear

This Thankful Thursday I am thankful for fear.

When it comes to pursuing your dreams, fear is always there whispering in your ear.

It’s all the,”What ifs..” The, “But you can’ts…” or the, “You’ll fails…”

When you want the new, fear will always be there chattering in the background.

The key to dealing with fear is recognizing that fear is simply trying to save you from something that will change your current situation — probably for the better.

In the Life of Pi, it is said that “…Fear… is life’s only true opponent. Only fear can defeat life. It is a clever, treacherous adversary, how well I know. It has no decency, respects no law or convention, shows no mercy. It goes for your weakest spot, which it finds with unnerving ease. It begins in your mind, always … so you must fight hard to express it. You must fight hard to shine the light of words upon it. Because if you don’t, if your fear becomes a wordless darkness that you avoid, perhaps even manage to forget, you open yourself to further attacks of fear because you never truly fought the opponent who defeated you.”

Make this year the year that you challenge your fears. Thank them for showing you where your weakest point is, then button up your coast, lean in and do what you fear the most.

I’ve started a new job. It’s going back to work after time off having my dear daughter and spending time with her. It’s exciting, scary, wonderful and sad all at the same time. It’s a treasure chest of mixed emotions with quite a few of them based in fear.

But I know in my heart and soul that I cannot become what I am meant to be without taking this very big step.

Spend this week recognizing when fear is strangling your subconscious mind and if you are bothering to listen.  Take a deep breath and be grateful, then use it as your call to work through something you fear and finally move beyond it.

It’s time.

Just pursue it!
