Painted pinup art before and after

Everyone has photos on their phone that could be art even perhaps painted pinup art.

One of my favorite things to do is snap shots with my iPhone and edit them in-phone-camera. Or take a photo from a friend and challenge myself to make it better. But what about people who don’t have my knowledge of photography and editing? They have photos on their phone that could be art. I wanted to challenge myself and also solve a problem.

The challenge: take a snapshot from a phone (or equivalent digicam) and create painted pinup art at a much larger resolution of 8×10 inches.

The truth: I really wasn’t sure I could pull this off.  I was limited by the 8×10 file size. The next one I try I may do larger. I’m used to painting 40x40in paintings. That allows for much more detail.

The result: I don’t think you’d be able to tell that the original source photo was from a phone. The lighting and scene are classic pinup. I’m already getting commissions through friends and am excited to share this option with people who can’t fly to me for a photo shoot.

As with most dreams, there wasn’t a linear or simple path.

I ran into road blocks (the resolution) and had to find my way around. Dreaming means showing up and when the going gets tough, just keep going! I’m so glad I did. This opens a new world for me creatively and I wouldn’t have found it if I hadn’t wondered, “What if?”

  • Playing at our work is so fun! Great result and glad you pushed your own limits to try it Iman – true test of a dreamer

Gorgeous! I was there when the photo was taken and I would’ve never thought with all that bad lighting this beautiful painting could be done from this picture. I thought it was scary enough my friend was sitting on a bomb! =) Fantastic job Iman!!!!
