Some Dreams Are Miracles

Some Dreams Are Miracles

Rachel holds her daughter for the first time.

Some dreams are miracles. It’s hard to dream of something that might not happen. To want it with every fiber of your being. Parenthood is a dream that many people achieve without trying. For some it’s unexpected. For others it takes a long time. My dear friend and her wonderful husband have been trying to many years and finally got pregnant via IVF. Witnessing the devotion to their journey has been humbling.

My Lyme disease and single mom status has made me a terrible friend. I’ve missed so many important moments in loved ones’ lives. But I was granted a miracle to witness a miracle.

Rachel gave birth to twins at 32.5 weeks. For the past few weeks she had been on bed rest fighting contractions. I tried to visit her two or three times and either my son was sick or I was so I abstained not wanting to get them sick.

Her beautiful and tiny but perfect son and daughter were born late last week. I asked if I could visit the miracle family the next day and offered to bring my camera.

It just so happened that I would be blessed to capture Rachel’s first moments with the twins, as she had been too sick to hold them or spend time with them yet.

Her hair wasn’t washed, she was in pain, Daddy hadn’t had a shower either, and the hospital lighting was not flattering. But it’s my most memorable photo shoot to date. Some dreams are miracles.

This is a moment I’ve wanted for my friends for so long. These are the moments a photographer dreams of.

Baby girl. A miracle and a dream.

Thank you Iman Woods. These pictures make me cry happy tears. It doesn’t matter that my hair is greasy, that I haven’t showered, or that I was swollen and rocking the hospital gown…these are perfect because those moments were amazing and to be reminded of them is really special. <3
