It’s been over a week with no sugar and until Saturday I found that my mind was clear and calm.

Art at the Source has arrived. By the time most of you will be reading this I will already be in my Sebastopol studio painting, since Sunday Mornings are slow and visitors drift in late.    I have to admit, I have been a little scared of what this weekend would bring.  Last year I had about a 30% decrease in sales and this year is such an unknown.

Yesterday was my first day of Art at the Source and it was scary.  Saturday was a true test of my no sugar resolve.  My reaction to not having my usual full studio or purchases made me want to hunt down a bag of cookies and dwell in pity. I made it though by reminding myself that I still have three more days, calling several good friends with sympathetic listening skills and making myself a soothing cup of tea.

It is daunting to think of becoming an International artist in an economy slump.  Than again, this is the perfect time to be looking outside of the US.

On a side note, I have been thinking about grad school.  A year and a half ago I entered it and knew it was where I was supposed to be.  Then my marriage hit a bump and I left school mid semester.  I have regretted it ever since.  The quality of work I saw being created at the school and the quality of the classes I was in,  was amazing. So Friday morning I made a call to see if I could salvage what I started.  This first call was promising.  The response was that I had up to two years once leaving to return. Tuesday I have a phone interview to get more information.

Are you an artist beginning to think about getting your art into a gallery?  I found a good article which lists various ways to get your art into a gallery from Scott Mason at called Getting Your Art Into a Gallery.  Are you selling your art during this economy?  Tell me how it is going for you and leave a comment.

(Wendy’s dream is still to become a influential international artist, but she left 8 Women Dream in March of 2010 to complete grad school.  She is still a strong supporter of 8 Women Dream and you will see her in the comments on the blog.)

I can’t even wrap my mind around grad school – congrats! And the whole sugar thing, you are my hero. I haven’t even attempted that one yet.

Wow, grad school would be quite the accomplishment! Good luck!

Congratulations on making it through the stress without giving into the call from the cookies.

I think you are doing an amazing job at marketing yourself and I have even more ideas for us at the next meeting – I just need to schedule it!
