What Everyone Ought to Know When Launching Your Ecommerce Site

Couture necklace from For Your Adornment

Jewelry, jewelry, everywhere! I have a whopping 3 products completely uploaded to the site. My big win this week was discovering the joy of multi-image support for the product photos – very cool once you get it. My other task was to clean up my work area and hang my dream board smack dab in my line of sight. It’s there and drawing comments from my son. And the site launch planned for this week? Like all projects of this size, the devil is in the details.

Just in case you also love to find out these lessons the hard way, here’s a list to help you avoid my pitfalls –

  1. Gather all the details (you mean I forgot to measure the length on all the necklaces? Crap.)
  2. Prep your images in a usable size (large photos are great . . .  being able to upload images quickly helps too)
  3. Keep the details when you build it (was that a vintage bead or semi-precious?)
  4. Test the purchasing process (where did THAT error come from?)

Needless to say, my notebook I have started to keep on the new works has a ton of useful information that will make plugging this stuff in so much easier in the future. For now I am elbow deep in my finished pieces figuring out these details.

In my copious spare time, I managed to burn through a book we had an opportunity to read and review. “Following the Whispers” by Karen Walker was an interesting ride through a life of experiences. There were several I could relate to, and many I could not. As a mother myself, her experiences with her son were at times heartbreaking, and infuriating as an observer. I admire her ability to process and tell her story as honestly as she did. Karen’s survivor mentality and strength she discovers later in life are fascinating to follow. The number of trials her own psyche experiences, and the depth of their scaring made her story an intense read.

May your notebook of life overflow with dream ideas

I love how you make me giggle at the rough spots. I like the idea of hanging your dream board right in your face. Why didn’t I think of that? Great comments on Following the Whispers. I will make sure to include mine next week.
