Being a part of 8 Women Dream, I get to spend a great deal of time dreaming. I dream of what I want my life to be about, I search for the bigger meanings, and I ponder how it’s all going to come together. There are lots of resources for inspiration out there – and lately I’ve been inspired by someone I haven’t met. It started when I hit the “Like” button on his Facebook fan page – and since doing that, I’ve had a jolt of refreshed energy towards my dreams of being a renowned photographer.
His name is Dr. Clint Steele.
One day, I took a leap and asked this stranger for an opportunity to interview him for this post.
Once I got him on the phone, I think it took all of 8 minutes to figure out that he has one simple passion for his life: to help others get what they want. He has a few projects going at the moment – and the one I gravitated to is called “Text for Success.”
The idea is simple. You sign up, and then he texts you every day with a successful thought or question to ponder for that day.
Simple Idea. Incredible Impact.
But his passion to help others started prior to texting. He started with Grateful Mondays. A few years ago he realized that he began to dread the start of his chiropractor work week. Then, when he started feeling sick on Sunday evenings, he tried something that at the time he thought was very selfish. Instead of worrying about the work week ahead, he’d think of someone in his life he was grateful for – and spent a few minutes handwriting them a note, telling them why. He said,
“I did that to take the focus off of me – off of my pain, my frustration – and focused on something good, someone I felt grateful for.”
“What started to happen was amazing. I was focused on someone else. I was wondering about them, what they were up to, what they were doing in their lives. I took the focus off of me, and my pain started to go away.”
When that happened, he figured at that point he was on to something.
Being a chiropractor, he believes that there is a connection between positive attitude and the impact that attitude has on one’s physical body. Its for that reason that he seeks out opportunities to make a difference. The first text he sent to my phone on the Text For Success project was, “When you work what you love, you really don’t work – you just love”.
I asked him what it means for him to work his dream of doing what he loves.
“I learn so much about myself when I am in the service of others. My belief is that it does far more for me than it ever does for them. It helps me be a better father, helps me physically, mentally, helps me take everything to the next level. “
I asked him about compromises – what does he have to give up – if anything – to live this life that he is passionately building by doing the things he loves.
“It’s not about making the most money or having more things. I have this gift and I want to give it away every day. I actually feel that if I keep it to myself, it would make me a very selfish person. If I can stay on track with that, I know the money will come.” “Besides,” he said in a soft, resolved voice, “I love my life now, more than any other time I can remember.”
Isn’t that what we as dreamers are trying to do? Live our lives and fill it with passion for the things we love to do?
OK dreamers, it’s go time.
Take a leap!
