What It Takes To Get Your Dream In Motion

Goal Status: Jewelry in retail space starting this Saturday

You may recall my mentioning that I would be spending the weekend getting my inventory sheet and jewelry prepped to take down to Haus Fortuna on Tuesday.

Have you ever had your dream time taken over by unforeseen circumstances? It starts so innocent with the “Mom? Can I meet my girlfriend at the ice arena?”. Then grocery shopping. Then dinner at my sisters. Then Monday once again.

The 11th hour cramming session ensued.

Here are a few tips for those looking to avoid my insanity and create some of their own.

1. Start cataloging now:

If you can’t name, number, or describe your stuff, you can’t sell it. Anywhere. I know too many artists who create and then totally avoid this step. Or leave it up to the store owner.

2. Take photos

When you are working on your art, you KNOW you will never forget every detail. Two projects later, you may have forgotten where you put it, let alone if that was sterling wire or silver plate. Track details about your project, while you work on it.

3. Stay organized

If you have been in my office and seen my desk, feel free to laugh here. Yes, there is some chaos in any creative process, but at some point the ability to FIND the items you created in one place is super handy.

With any luck, and the continued support/cajoling of my fellow dreamers, this streak of productivity will continue.

After this week’s experiences is to always remember the mantra of every successful entrepreneur: “Think big. Start small. Move fast.”

Next on my list:  find time to make more jewelry.
